We all know him as the white-boy rapper from Thrift Shop, that snazzy kid rocking a fur coat singing song nonsense about only having $20, but his word I feel are quite...uncharacteristic of what I expected him to be. I've reached the stage now where any Caucasian I see rapping is judges as another Eminem (God help us all) here to teach the world how to be bitter and curse and beat women and do drugs. And while Ryan Lewis is a clown in most of his videos, somehow this song, "Same Love" is the most beautiful and honest set of words I've seen come out his mouth.
This world is plagued with violence, discrimination, convenient biblical quotes, ignorance and hate because of strong and unwavering opinions. We as human forget that we are just that: human..we replace our mortal existence with delusions of grandeur, that somehow we are better than other because of skin colour, religion, food preference, sexual orientation, career, gender, academic success and somehow we see ourselves more worthy in the eyes of our God(s) so much so that we take it upon ourselves to show others just how unworthy they are.
Anyway, sometimes I feel like my words aren't necessary because others have said it already. So without further pretentious rambling, I've posted the song I was talking about and the powerful lyrics that go along with it. I hope it makes as much sense to you as it did to me. i will leave my opinions for another day...
Yours in writing,
